Hi Kevin,

My understanding is that a 54/11 retiree can retire and can then apply for
any jobs in DE???

So do "retire" and then if you want to you can apply for your previous job.
But of course your school has to advertise that job, and go through all the
bureaucratic procedures.

So if you and your school want to stay together, it can be done. You can
have your 54/11 cake and eat it!
