[Moodle] MySQL

Zach Alexakos Geelong North Secondary College Information Technology DepartmentHello all,

Had a look at PHPMyadmin but it ended up being quite complicated eg: setting up configuration files etc... As a teacher I don't have time to spend hours configuring servers although I'm finding that's exactly what I am doing at the moment.

Webmin on the other hand (thanks Peter), was easy to install but would come up with the message that cache privileges were not enabled when trying to get it running from the browser. Trying to find the relevant file was impossible- also trying to find the relevant support for this problem was also impossible. Any advice for this particular problem would be appreciated.

But I'm still baffled by the fact that the mysql commands for creating tables would not work via the command line screen. Having created a million and one databases/tables using mysql (years ago at uni), this one keeps coming up as a syntax error on line two (and it's exactly as it is in the moodle documentation)- any help on this one would resolve all above problems. Period.

line 1- mysql> CREATE DATABASE moodle
line 2- mysql> GRANT SELECT,INSERT,UPDATE,DELETE,CREATE,DROP,INDEX,ALTER ON moodle
line 3- mysql> TO username at localhost IDENTIFIED BY 'password';

It creates the database but doesn't like line two or three.

  G'day,
  MC is is a filemanager and has nothing to do with Mysql. You need to install phpMyadmin. http://www.phpmyadmin.net/
  This will give you a web interface into Mysql. You need to have Apache running and php enabled.
  Cheers

    I think Red Hat has a utility called MC (Midnight Commander). If you type that in at the command line (log in as super user) it might make navigation less painful. I don't think you can access the Mysql administration page using a browser unless you use WebAdmin.

    To the Moodle list,

    Does anyone know if you can access the administration page of mysql in Red Hat 9 using a browser?

    At the moment all I can access is the terminal command line interface.
