Interesting.
 
Perhaps we are hard wired to be more sensitive to small differences: the objects that are aligned - but not exactly; the musical note that is just off key; the two colours that are almost the same; the line that is parallel to the edge of the page - but not exactly.

The last time they changed their logo, they moved two letters by one pixel.

That shook  <http://www.adweek.com/adfreak/google-makes-subtlest-logo-change-history-logo-changes-157979> up the design world, I can tell you.
