[Year 12 IT Apps] Maggie Iaquinto

When Maggie was diagnosed with her illness this time last year I was asked to cover for her IT Apps class at Yeshivah college. It has been a long time since I taught IT but with her start to the course it was a relatively easy thing to finish up for her.
When I was asked to teach Maths at our sister school, Maggie was well enough and aching to get back to teaching. She continued to be well enough to teach up until the end of the semester.
I have taken the class back up but they are mighty shoes to fill! Maggie was an amazingly generous person, particularly in helping me prepare for the likelihood of teaching the class again this year.
While I did not know her long many at this school did, including those whose children she taught in the past.
The mood here is very sad and sombre since we heard yesterday that she had died.
It is very gratifying to those here most affected to hear of all the well wishes being posted here.
This is a sad loss for us all and the world is a little worse off for her passing.

I am very sad to hear of this, my thoughts and prayers are with her Family, Friends and Students.
I had the privilege of knowing Maggie through to aspects of her life, first as a teacher and colleague. She was so giving and supportive always willing to share with people.

I also knew Maggie through our shared interest in Amateur Radio, in fact I first learnt of Maggie when she arranged supported Parade College in making Contact with the International Space Station.

She will be missed amongst all the communities.

Hi there folks,

Upon returning to Victoria 16 whole years ago, following my start in teaching in Queensland, I could not have met a friendlier, more encouraging, more helpful individual than Maggie Iaquinto at VITTA PD for Teaching Units 1-4 IT.

Later on, following a number years out of teaching VCE IT, and upon getting back into it, I was glad to catch up with Maggie's smiling face again at the annual VITTA conference just a few years back. She had not changed one bit and was just as encouraging and as interested as ever.

As seems to be universally the case on this list, I count it a privilege that I had the opportunity to meet, talk with and share with such an inspiring individual.

You will be greatly missed Maggie.

I'm really sorry to hear that.

She was a wonderful person. I only collaborated with her a few times but she was always very helpful, pleasant and patient.

What a sad blow to education in general and IT in particular.

Dear colleagues

It is with great sadness to inform you that our dear colleague Maggie passed away this morning.

Maggie made an outstanding contribution to education. She was an inspiring and diligent teacher, an active contributor to these listservs and a generous provider of expertise to VITTA in a range of capacities. In addition she tirelessly supported the VCAA in many ways, including:

* Review Panel member for several study designs

*         Benchmarking report author

*         Software Development State Reviewer

*         Contributor to Assessment Handbooks

*         Implementation  workshop presenter

*         Assessor of CATs.

It was in the capacity of assessing CATs that I first met Maggie over 20 years ago, and she never ceased to inspire me with her creativity, inquisitiveness, quirkiness and expertise. We shared many coffees over the years discussing VCE IT and I have lost a friend and a highly valued colleague.

Vale Maggie.

Regards
Paula
