[Year 12 IT Apps] itapps Digest, Vol 67, Issue 32

Hi Steven,
your comment is one of the reasons I took up the VET Certs here.
I often think that we(I) work our butt off to keep the kiddies in I.T during the middle school time and lose them at VCE when they see what the content is. This comment has also been echoed previously by others so I aint the first on that front.
Personally, am looking to develop a programming stream for the crew moving to year 11 next year who are currently doing my Cert2 stuff... Its the nature of our subject..ever changing!!!!
However, it can also be counter argued that the content taught in the Apps subject is valid in a commercial context on a variety of fronts too.
Guess it just depends on which side of the fence ya jump from!

Apps? Software? Hardware? Customer support? Other?...lots of possible debates and discussions can be had I guess..

I totally agree, I just started marking mine. It is a mammoth job.

I really think that IT in general is not as interesting as it could be
at VCE level. Access, excel and webpages are good, but I would like to
see a TAFE style install the hard drive, load a O/S, create a RAID
array, find out in practise what the jumper setting on a HD do. Although
the resources at school's are prob not up to it, (I know they aren't
here) maybe 1/4 outcomes could be on this...

You can still ask questions on theory of this in a exam setting also.

E.g. What is the default setting for a Hard Disk when no jumper is set?
Or 'Outline the procedure for installing a hard disk into a machine'.
There is so many case studies that could be modified to fit this
scenario.

Jenny has come into your computer shop saying her computer doesn't work
saying 'Hard disk error No operating system found' - what are some steps
you can take to isolate the problem.... etc etc.
Kids might finally know what a BSOD actually means, how to change a
graphics card in a computer for those all important games that they want
to play, and why when they install windows onto the wrong partition it
costs them hours....

My late night rant...

Hi Folks,

What has hit me is the sheer size of SAC41 in comparison to SAC42.
There is no way the comparative weights of these 2 SACs ( 60 vs 40 % )
is reflected in the volume of work students have to produce. It is more
like 80 vs 20 ......

Just my feedback for anyone who may have had a similar experience

Kind Regards

Subject: [Year 12 IT Apps] U4O1 marker

Hi all. As I plough through marking the mammoth U4O1, I thought I'd
share my secret marking tool. I find it makes marking big SACs far
easier (since I don't have to add mentally, or remember what I've found
so far that is worth marks) and fairer since my marking scheme doesn't
vary over time.

It's divided into the 3 tasks, and complex items like mockups and
production have little sub-markers underneath for entering components of
marks. This is handy where you find the relevant proof at different
times and want to record (for example) that 'yes, he did use sheet
protection so that's 1 mark' without having to juggle a lot of criteria
in one's head at once.

It also gives 3 task totals for VASS result entry as well as % and
outcome total out of 60. If you later stick in your U4O2 test result,
it gives your kids' U4 totals (also for VASS data entry).

Hope it helps

Regards
Mark

Now to get onto task 2...
