I would be willing to run some PD in Gippsland for PHP. I do have the book and CD, and have a class using it now.

seems I am not alone in my comment...

talk about a can 'o worms!

Solutions? This year...early. Any country SD teachers willing to put their hand up? If in the Wimmera region my school is free for a venue, but we do expect a donation for nibbles! Our new classrooms are air conditioned too...Times can be negotiated.
Why this offer? I am the Wimmera PLN person again for 2010.

Kent.

G'day Robert

Hi Roland, I was not trying to "have a go" at VITTA about the cost of PD.

Apologies if my reply might have sounded like that Robert. Subject associations are 'tough enough' to take any criticism on the chin so don't hesitate to ask the hard questions. I don't speak for VITTA, see my disclaimer below, these views are my own.

	I had two main points:
	1. The way PD is offered and how this affects "country folk".

Agreed, part of why many subject associations have regional chapters. I helped VITTA out with running some PD in the country for the new study design a couple of years ago .. twas with Maggie Iaquinto, one of the most engaging educators I have ever worked with.
I see no reason why this will not happen again. Perhaps in Vic it is too easy for us to assume that everybody will just drive over, similarly about the regional balance of members on any state board or council.

	 2. The basic cost of PD. Anything out of school is so expensive. Even as a full time teacher I could not afford to be a member of all three of MAV, VITTA and STAV. (snip)

School based membership gets you a discount. Also the CPTAV have an agreement that if you are member of one group, you can ask for reciprocal benefits and discounts from another. By illustration, I understand that the ICTEV have offered member discounts for their conferences to any VITTA member (including http://www.acec2010.info <http://www.acec2010.info/> ) . STAV recognise my VITTA membership when I go to STAVCON (http://www.sciencevictoria.com.au/STAVCON.html).

It is just a matter of asking and could save you many dollars. :-)

Regards Roland

Disclaimer: I am a member of the VITTA COM (currently on LOA) on the ACEC2010 technical team, STAV member and enjoy the odd, imported beer on a Sunday arvo.
