[Year 12 IT Apps] RIP Rural Rescue Flights...

Considering the current thread about writing and posting your own SACS, it is my sad duty to inform those on the list of the passing of the RRF SAC, it served well and has been the launchpad for many to use as an outcome but, unfortunately, the time has come to retire it and to produce a new, exciting SAC1 for the 2009 year.
Being the creator of the original version, it is due time to retire RRF and move on.
RIP RRF!

Whats the new model? Who knows...even I dont know what I will conjure up just yet...
Stay tuned listers!

(jeez I can rabbit on sometimes....)

Hi Margaret,
The upside is that you may get some constructive criticism and be able to improve your SAC for the following year. I for one would love to congratulate you just for having the guts to create your own SAC, this is admirable!!! I am sure you will soon become a teacher we can all look up to if you are prepared to create your own SACs in your first year of teaching!!

Good luck

	Thank you for the advice.

I am hesitant in posting to the VITTA site as there is always that
voice saying "is it good enough". As a first year teacher here in
Australia (I am a Scottish teacher) I have been learning the course as I
am teaching it. I do not feel confident enough to post it on such a
credible site. Sending it through the email systems seems less
	intimidating for me.

In future I can just send directly to teachers to overcome this
	problem.

	Thanks again

	Hi all
Is one potential solution for sensitive materials to publish a note
	like
"I have a really good sample SAC some of you might like to use.
	Please
email me off list if you would like a copy."
I realise the obvious issue with this is the possibility of 100 emails
that then land in your inbox requesting the file.
	Just a suggestion....

	Hi Margaret and Maggie,

Thanks for raising this issue as it is one that plays on the minds
of the teachers and may inhibit participation by some.
The issue with exams and other attachments is that they can be sent
directly to myself or posted on the VITTA web site which is only for
members, most if not all are teachers as far as I am aware. My email
	is
on the edulists site and for the record is kevork at edulists.com.au.
Once again, if we are sharing resources we should always modify
	them
out of professional duty of care, though I can hear some saying why
spoil a good thing if it is already just like you want it.
It comes down to cost/benefit of any decision or system we build
	or
use. I can only wish my students would join edulists, monitor
discussions and trawl all attachments as revision for upcoming
assessment tasks. Sadly, even with customised revision folders for
	each
student containing several past exams I still find them left behind in
the room or forgotten at home.
We could modify the mailing lists to automatically harvest
attachments, post them to the web site and require a password to
download them but not all attachments are necessarily final exams or
other assessment materials. Is it worth the effort ?
I do hear what you say Margaret and as a compromise to retain open
access, it is just a matter of using the resources slightly
	differently
even if they are posted as attachments.

	    Happy to continue this discussion.

	Kind Regards

That particular concern has been with us all the years edulists have
been running and I reckon all teachers share that concern. I post my
exams and other assessment items to the VITTA site which needs login
credentials to view and download. Also, Kevork has posted all such
items, by the writer's request, to a password-protected section of his
	website.

My concern is that we can pass work through this system. For example
	I
sent an exam earlier in the year that could have been used by some
schools. Is it a good idea to have students access these attachments?

	Just a concern.

I agree with the others .. keep it open. This is a public list for
educators and soap box for some. If it isnt worth saying on the front
page of The Age, it probably isnt worth saying. I reckon that most of
	us
would rather be caught out asking a question from erstwhile and

	use

		Thanks Margaret,

We do tend to overlook some things.

We have two choices on this security issue -

		either

we need to restrict access to the list messages to authorised list

	members

		-
don't ask me how, I'm not a security expert.

		or

we must be careful what we say, so that students or other

	"non-members" of

the list cannot gain any "useful" or personal infomation that we do

	not

		want
		them to have.

		Answer?

What do we want? And what is actually possible?

One of the joys of the Internet, and also one of the biggest

	problems, is

the open access of information to all of us.

Where do these lists need to go?

Can I just bring to attention to the moderator that these emails

	can be

accessed by students. One of my students did a google search and

	was

able to bring up an email using my name and edulist.

How can we secure these emails?
