[Year 12 IT Apps] Need a program to convert text to audio

I have briefly played with this program, called Verbose, but do not know much about it. There is a download at the following web page

It is able to change a text file to speech which is the synthesised Anna voice. It can also save this as an mp3 file. So set it up as a podcast I guess. The computer voice is not the most easy voice to understand and the intonation and expression are not always appropriate or immediately clear.  I am also not sure if there is any limit on the text file size.
 
How ever maybe this software will assist you.

Problem:  Student has problem reading notes.

Solution:  Student can listen to notes on iPod.


Can anyone recommend a program that I can download (either free or trial download) that will convert text (Year 12 summary notes) into audio format (mp3 or wav file) that my student can then use to listen to?

I did this mid-year, but the software I used was hit-and-miss.  Anyone else got experience with this and make a suitable recommendation?
