[Year 12 IT Apps] NSW schools Gmail(etc)?

Hi Stephen, I investigated this with Gmail at the beginning of last
year, but when your school limits students' internet access to educache
(and therefore even www.google.com.au is banned) it was a somewhat
futile effort.

But personally I thought it was an amazing idea - I set it up for myself
to see how it works and yes, you can run email, intranet, docs etc,
fantastic, but totally useless when google is banned in the school.

Cheers
Ros

Interesting story here ....

Quote ...

"Google partner SMS Management and Technology has emerged as the leading

bidder to supply the NSW Department of Education with 1.5 million
student
email services using a customised version of the search giant's Gmail
service, Acting NSW Minister for Education and Training John
Hatzistergos
said."

Mike Leishman and I were discussing this very idea at the last Echalk
Unconference. We went a little further and wondered when a school or
system would move over to the Google platform completely for students -
Gmail, Google Docs, the works. This certainly is a start.

Hmmmmm.....
