[Year 12 IT Apps] A tip for email nasties..

Hi Kent,

But your individual operations on your own computer do not help anyone else.
They help you, and of course that is fine, as with any of us operating our
own anti-spam filters. But it does not stop the downloading of those
unwanted emails to your computer. It does nothing to stop the clogging of
the "information highway" by unwanted and unnecessary junk.

The problem here has been more systemic. An anti-spam attempt by a mail
server that has resulted in a snowballing increase in emails sent, thus
clogging up the system and annoying the hell out of the recipients of all
those (in this case) 200+ "challenge" messages.

Email lists have been around for quite some time and operators of mail
servers should know this. So to implement such a "challenging" approach to
spam emails is inappropriate.

The "out of office" syndrome is different. The individual user has control
over that and should know that "out of office" must not be used if you are a
member of an email list of any sort.
