*Managing and working in a virtual team*

Developing virtual teams is 90% culture change and 10% technology." -
Bob Buckman

Collaboration between groups and individuals working remotely is not a
new concept. However the development of information technology has
driven the development of virtual teams. In today's global market place,
organizations looking for a competitive edge have found it in technology
which allows them to utilize employees in new ways; in different places
and at different times.

During this forum we will explore some of the *dynamics of virtual and
remote teams* through an experiential-based learning activity. What are
some of the common challenges that virtual teams face when collaborating
across national, professional and organizational boundaries? Why are
some of the pitfalls and frustrations so hard to avoid and why are these
teams so very, very hard to manage? We will review the eight key
elements that have been identified by research as representing the
critical drivers of success in virtual team environment. What are the
things that absolutely must go right and what can go wrong?
