Its a good option but unfortunately, its also an expensive one given the 'charge out' rates some use! 
Suggest creating a 'limited time' contract and put strict limits in place if you must...

I am currently investigating the advantages and disadvantages of having a contracted IT company serve our school IT requirements. During this busy time, would you be kind enough to document your thoughts briefly as to the above situation.  If you are aware of a school who contracts all or particular IT projects, would you list the company details, advantages, disadvantages and an hourly figure please.
