We use a program called First Class Web, put out by Human Edge. It is simple=
to use, and can be customised for your school -ie, if kids are late/absent,=
there is a variable list of reasons/excuses depending on how your school wo=
rks.

Teachers are encouraged to mark their rolls before going home. The next day=
rolls over at 9.00 am, but you can still edit previous days if you want to.=
The list of absences is generated by the office and goes to the level coor=
dinators to check absences. There is also the "notes" facility whereby a sh=
ort note can be attached to a students name (eg. homework not done, lateness=
, behaviour etc.) - coordinators can then get a better picture of "repeat of=
fendors" and therefore often have more ammunition when dealing with parents.

It is also linked to our Outcomes reporting package so absences can go direc=
tly from the attendance rolls to the reports which is handy.

Another good feature is the timetable viewer which allows you to see timetab=
les for students and staff. It makes it easier to track them down (well at=
least you know where they should be).

Just go to the website at http://www.humanedge.biz/firstclass/ for more info=
.

regards,

Subject: [Year 12 IT Apps] Attendance software

Hi all

I apologise for the cross posts. Some lists receive more responses than othe=
rs. :-)

We are investigating options for online attendance software. What are school=
s using for this?

Our requirements (sorry this should read wish list) are a:

* System that students can use to swipe their card when they arrive=
late/leave early to/from school. VCE coordinators are particularly keen on=
this as Kew runs a minimum attendance policy. Staff could access it online=
and mark their roll each lesson

* Link in with our current AD network so that only one database is m=
aintained

* Hand held device could also access the system via wireless

*         Reporting

* Generate SMS or emails to parents for non attendance

I know this has elements of 'Ultranet' but we are keen to implement a system=
 now.

If this question has already been asked on the list I apologise in advance.

Thanks

Bruce
