[Year 12 IPM] databases

I reckon it's really worth having a look at MySQL.

I have used it in ITS and coupled with php (programming) and you can do
some nice web stuff. That combo is the basis of many CMS
(content-management-system) websites.

You may be able to give the kids the 15-20 lines of php code w/o a real
need for them to understand all of it.

Alternatively, I'm sure someone like Con Zymaris could direct you to
some preliminary MySQL tasks (a squillion on the web).

I think it may be more 'progressive' than the Word/Access/Excel path
IMHO.

I have produced notes on how to setup a MySQL db and produce output from
it.

The notes may need a little updating, and phpdev is better than foxserv.

Robyn - I have been using Access for the past few years, and it has
worked fine.
I do like its integration with both Excel and Word - useful for carrying
out some useful projects.
If I can be of any help, do not hesitate to ask.
Ciao, Keith
