Can someone please tell me what these new teaching techquics are? How can they be used in ways other than high tech 'chalk and talk' that can not already be done with a laptop and data projector...

I agree with you when you say "I see a lot more uses for them than high tech chalk and talk."

Trouble is it won't happen, teachers will use them to teach with and the teaching will remain the focus of most classrooms.

An expensive waste of time.

We have just had 3 MIMIO boards installed and they seem to work fine. We are just in the process of training staff how to use them. I see a lot more uses for them than high tech chalk and talk. We have normal Hitachi projectors and the Mimio modules. We have USB connections to the Mimio but I suggest you get wireless ones with the new pen that has just some out. (They are better than the original ones)
Cheers

Very handy (DEFINITELY DO IT- DON"T LISTEN TO MARK), I use them all the time, in fact I couldn't teach without them now. The ones here are by Hitachi and apparently they're bringing out Mac compatible software for them (North Geelong is a Mac school), but I haven't seen it yet. If you want to find out more contact 52789399 and ask for the Technical Captain of IT here at the school.

We also used them here to impress the Minister of Education for more cash. It worked.

DON"T DO IT

They are gadgets used to foster a chalk and talk orientated classroom (the Maths teachers love them) and to impress Principals.

Dear colleagues
There are calls from some quarters at my school to put electronic whiteboards in as many class rooms as possible.
After the Business Manager recovered from his heart attack, he has asked me to investigate some cheaper alternatives.
I have read about ways to convert standard whiteboards into electronic ones by using a special type of projector or a special gadget you can attach to a standard whiteboard. I have the brochures but ...
As anyone else used or tested such a device at their school?
If so, what are comparative results regarding performance, visibility, ease of use etc?
Thanks for your assistance.
