it is the bottom line

Bottom line.....find some techs worth their $s (not so easy)

most good techs do not want to stay in schools because of the money; many tech support companies move their "most improved" techs out of schools and into the business world where they earn lots more (for them and tech support company) As a TAFE Assessor I saw this happen quite a bit in cert 4 in IT and even the students doing ASBAs cert 3 in IT were aiming to not be in schools

Ultimately we have to get the techs to share --> as generously as members of these lists share --> some do share but not like on these lists.

Generally we, as IT teachers, stay in schools because we enjoy teaching or have a "vocation" to use a really old fashioned word (are you out there Mr Hind?)

Many techs are not student orientated, their "vocation" is not about learning and teaching, not about inspiring success etc etc. it is about running computer gear and networks. students spend a lot of time stuffing things up deliberately and many teachers do so accidentally.
As a tech that can be very frustrating - business people do not sabotage their own networks and generally pay better !!

Bottom line.....find some techs worth their $s (not so easy) and KEEP them

Andrew

(off the soap box for now --> yes i want more money but I feel SSOs are woefully underpaid and most techs are just paid as SSOs)

You don't have to drink, you can stand around eating peanuts and drinking water if you like. Otherwise, join me to raise a toast to the new year and join me for some nosh afterwards. All the badly dressed IS and ITA teachers will be there.
