[Design and Technology] destech Digest, Vol 179, Issue 2

Hi All,

The theory work for year 7-10 is going to be OK. We will be providing some classes with tutorials on how to use Illustrator (CAD for laser cutter), some other junior classes will have to make cardboard models and develop designs using sketchup at home. The majority of practical work will be hugely affected and our rubrics will need to be modified to reflect this.

VCE - I like the idea of completing folio work for unit 2 during term 2, and then SEM2 will be prac pretty much all the way with making unit 1 and 2.

Year 12 - I am hopeful prac work will begin late term 2 or if not start of term 3. The folio work will need to be completed during term 2, up to QM, RA, RC, PP, etc etc.. Even making some scaled prototypes at home using a range of materials with photographic evidence will support their work.

Students will be finishing later in the year so will hopefully have time to make the products, knowing the exams will be pushed back as well.

SAC's - I am not entirely sure how these will work, maybe complete U3O2 term 3? And U4O1 term 4?

Everything is going to have to be compromised. I heard that Uni's will also need to push back their selection dates to help deal with the pandemic.

Regards

Dean.

Hey Liz

For my Yr 11s we plan to start on the second folio working in groups to come up with a project to be completed most likely in term 4.
All my classes are going to be put onto OneNote so l can see who is contributing to the group work.
Add to the mix some drawing exercises to increase the skills in this area.

My Yr 12s are going to continue with the folio work and will complete the 2 next study areas via power point presentation as well as questions in OneNote to be answered.
I have already spoken to my school with the possibility of sending home a small tool kit and balsa wood. This will enable the students to do some trailing and testing of joints they can use on their projects.

Does anyone have ideas around conducting SAC's.

Thanks Phil O'Kelly

    Hi everyone,

Hope you are all doing okay.

Well its clear that we will be teaching online for several weeks to come, possibly the entire term.

Just wondering how people are going to manage their Unit 1 classes. ie folio done and now into production.

My Unit 3's are still working on their folio and hopefully their production can be extended into Term 4 and we can focus on Unit 4 SAC now instead. Waiting to hear more

    from VCAA on this.

What are peoples interpretation of the situation and how you will manage your classes and students remotely? I have ideas but would like peoples thoughts to include

    in the mix.

    Cheers,

    Liz
