Hi Suzanne

I teach a mixed fashion/furniture year 12 class and have done so for a
decade or two now. Our VCE classes are quite small but would be non
existant if we couldnt offer both.I have 12 this year. 6 doing textiles 6
timber. All the theory is done as one group and previously I have had
both the wood room and textiles rooms available at the same time for the
prac component. This year yr 11 classes are running at the same time but
there is a spare room next door to the wood room and we have 6 spare
machines that I can take. Its a pain and requires lots of organisation but
if I want the class to run it has to be done. I do spend most of my time in
the wood room for safety reasons. The textiles students are usually self
sufficient. It can work but requires an understanding timetabler and a
teacher who doesnt mind being run off her feet :-)

Cheers Maryann Augustinus The University High School

The theory is the same so one teacher could teach that and the class be split for the production work?

I agree with Faye to a certain point with regards to the theory, however
there are not many teachers that would be trained to cover both??
