Hi Pauls,

We have been using a Fennec Laser FL6090 80 watt lasercutter for about 2 years. We bought it off ebay (new) for around $8000, from Sydney.
It works perfectly for a school environment, easy to maintain and reliable. Bed size approx. 600x900mm with adjustable height from the laser head.

Product design, Systems Engineering, Art and graphics (Vis Comm) subjects all use it (plus the odd "homer" here and there!).

We can cut through acrylic, thin wood, glass and we can also etch pictures/photos/logos into wood, acrylic and other matierials.

We did investigate higher priced models, thinking that "you get what you pay for" but we are totally happy with our system.

Not sure where to find it on Ebay, but if you need to know more, email me and I will get you a contact.

Regards

We have been considering upgrading, well actually creating, some new technology in our department. we have decided that a laser cutter could be the best option. The price ranges enormously, we thought our original budget to save to $15000 was realistic but now it seems $ 27,000 plus is the way to go ..... This could take a few years to save for.
What are other people using?
What programmes are you using it for? Projects, materials.?
What was the cost?
Have you used it a lot to justify the cost?

Would love some feedback as this is a major investment for us. We have a vacuum former but no other new technology.
tools for Schools have one at the moment for about 15000 ... Does anyone know about this brand?
any feedback would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Paula,
We have been using an Epilog Helix 30 watt laser cutter for 3 years now and it has been in constant use by Art Design, Technology, Maths, Humanities, Library and other areas.
We decided to lease ours which meant we only needed to find $10 K per year over 3 years rather than all up front.
I would be happy to fill you in on details if you wish
