Hey Mike,

Where did you purchase the 3D printer from and how much did it cost?

Hi John,

We have just purchased two 3d printers from 3d printing systems. www.3DPrintingSystems.com<http://www.3DPrintingSystems.com>

One is used in the IT CAD class. The students can print their designs and it has been a great hit.
They can get feedback on how their designs actually work in the real world.
The other one is in the Systems Engineering area and hopefully will be used by students next year in units ? primarily to create parts for their productions.
Both printers were easy to set up and we had them running the day of arrival.
Feel free to make contact if you want any more information.

Regards Mike Davies

I have the possibility of being given funds for a 3d printer but I need to research now Any clues who to ask or see?

Dear colleague

There is a preview of the publication 101 Design Methods online. Although its content is applicable to industry it may be useful for Unit 3, Area of Study 1, Outcome 1, specifically key knowledge 'how a designer collects, records and develops relevant information about the design problem and the specific needs and requirements of the client and/or end-user/s to create a design brief, including reference to Product design factors' and the key skill 'explain methods and activities from the highlighted information that the designer could undertake to research, explore and develop creative design ideas and design options to meet the requirements of the design brief'.

Information about the book is available at:
http://www.101designmethods.com/

Regards, Lorraine.
