Hi Cath.

We pay $4,000 for SolidWorks for 30 computer site license. I
understand it’s not cheap as Pro Desktop but it is industry standard
and used in Swinburne Engineering Design, Product Design Degrees as
well as at RMIT, Melbourne Uni, Monash, Deakin etc. If $2,000
savings helps?

I basically argue that the school has to budget for computer leases
and general software far more than this and really $4,000 should be
able to be accommodated. I suggest your LAN manager (person
responsible for your schools computer system) may have a separate
budget for those sorts of ongoing expenses anyway? Maybe your
Department shouldn't be expected to pay for it after all?

I know it looks like I'm against the general opinion out there but I
figure if you can get your schools administration on side with this, I
think you will be satisfied in knowing your giving your students a
good start.

All the best Cath with whatever you finally decide. I'm sure
ProDesktop does a fine job if thats the way you choose to go.

Regards,

Phil Cranswick
