Dear fellow technology teachers,

Design and Technology Teachers Association Victoria will be making a very strong case in response to the document "National Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians - Draft" on your behalf. Technology (apart from ICT) is not mentioned in the statement; however we also know how important Technology is in our student's lives. In our response we will draw on our discussions with Dr Kurt Seemann (17th September 08) and his work in defining the area of Technology and the underpinning concept of "technacy".

Technacy is the ability to understand, skillfully apply and communicate creative and 'balanced' technological solutions that are based on understanding the contextual factors involved.

Our response will be ready early next week. We will endeavor to put it up on the webpage for your comment. You can also forward your comments to admin at datta.vic.edu.au. We will consolidate the responses early enough to get it away by the deadline of October 3.

A statement on behalf of DATTA Australia will also be available on our website.

Please feel encouraged to make your own response, encourage others to respond.

Submissions on the draft can be made until 3 October 2008.

To view the draft declaration and submit comments, visit the MCEETYA website www.mceetya.edu.au/mceetya/natgoals,24767.html
