Subject: help posting re- govt grants

Hi again!

I have tried to post this (see below) on the destech site but it keeps bouncing. Could you try to post it for me. I would be grateful again!

Hi all I am furious and unsure as what to do.

The principal at my school did receive the grant for upgrades but did not inform me as technology co-ordinator. He has spent the money on new computers/digital cameras etc for information technology/ the school in general. His excuse was that it is 'technology' and it was not specified that it had to be spent on materials technology. I begged to differ..... to me the ministers media release was not ambiguous. He also said and anyway now that I have found out it was too late to apply for any machinery upgrades. The money had to be spent before the end of the month. He said I could put in a submission for some money but that it had to be done by Friday and it had to include 3 quotes for each, a written justification for purchase - how it would improve outcomes for students/which students would be using it etc. He said that as there is no way it could be done by Friday then there is no point trying........he doesn't know me at all. the statement was like showing a red rag to a bull and this is where I need your help. Can anyone help with ideas for upgrades lathes etc (we have a wood room, metal, plastic, electronics and textiles) Can you share quotes or possibly justifications for purchase. I will of course be spending Monday/Tuesday collecting information but help would be greatly appreciated.

I am really sick of technology being treated so shabbily....I am not normally the fighting type but this treatment really upset me and I can't take it lying down!

Regards Maryann Augustinus The University High School

PS Or am I totally off the mark? Is spending the grant on IT ok?

Hi Maryann,

Paul Dawes here - I was a student teacher of yours a coupe of years ago. Hope all is well at unihigh.

I believe my principal applied for the grant just before I got here (almost 12 months ago) and we found out about it about a month ago. We have to have it spent by the end of the week. It's very easy to do!

Hope all is well at unihigh. I saw Aldo last year taking a PD on Units 2&4.

See you at the next one.
