Re: [Design and Technology] Re:Unit one TextilesDear Yvette,
Don't forget that DATTA Vic. (Design and Technology Teachers' Association Victoria) has a kit of Support Materials for Units 1-4 - a book for each unit and also includes a CD of all units. The CD includes worksheets that can be modified to suit what you are doing. The cost is $130.00 for members and $143.00 for non members. Prices include GST but postage is extra.
Feel free to contact me on 9349 1538 if you would like more information and this kit.

  Hi Melissa,

Thank-you very much! your ideas sound great, I am going to VHETTA's conference so maybe they will sell them there.

  Thank you
  Yvette

    Hi Yvette,

I taught Unit 1 for this first time this year. I got them to buy a piece of clothing from an op shop, or bring something from home. The brief was that they had to turn it into a garment that could be worn to a semi formal function. I have attached my brief and a course outline I gave the students. Hope this is of some helps. I actually started the unit by bringing in different items, getting the students to sketch them, then sketch 3 alternate designs with 3 points of difference. This was created a good discussion base for the different types of modifications that can be made. i.e. aesthetics, size, shape, closures etc. The VHETTA support documents for units 1-4 Textiles are excellent. They are $99 each unit, but well worth the money. They have worksheets and teacher notes. I am not an expert by any means, but I am definitely keen to share ideas with other teachers. I don't have time to reinvent the wheel. Good luck & keep in touch.

    Hi Everyone,

I am going back to teach Design and Technology Textiles Unit 1, after not teaching it for a few years. I have to do my orientation next week and I am still getting my head around the new study design. Does anyone have any good ideas for Unit 1, what textile pieces have people re-designed? I know everyone is extremely busy at the moment but any ideas would be appreciated.
