[Design and Technology] Ideas for Units 1 or 2

Very briefly, I found the Unit 2 group activity most dissatisfactory this
term. With only 6 students the success of this sort of program relied on
the motivation of all the students too much. One student excelled by
getting on with the work on his own work and abandoning his team. The
other five failed. Three (team 2) came to unit 2 without doing unit 1 and
quickly lost motivation when they realised how much work they were
supposed to do. The other two wasted so much class time that they were
unable to start production on time. One of these two students had a high
absenteism and prefered to go to Melb for a rock concert rather be at
school or catch up with work missed. Hence the other (successful) team
member struck out on his own. To complicate matters, this school can only
run D&T with 'piggy-back' classess. I could not give the year 11's as much
attention as they should have had since the year 12's were at such crucial
point in their course. (Unit 2 and 3/4 hardly complement each other).
There were good moments, though.
