[Informatics] Detailed design for MMOS (criteria 5)

Thanks Paula. There was some discussion around this in my class today and I needed to clarify so I could be a little more definitive as to what to tell the students. At times the language can be a little vague or open for interpretation so I wanted to get this clarified.

Thanks again.

Yes Scott this is correct - criterion 5 is about design, and criteria 6 and 7 are about the MMOS itself. Criterion 8 is the evaluation of the solution and the project plan. We have to be careful with words here - for the ideation component of criterion 5 they prepare design ideas; then they apply criteria to determine what design idea is going to be developed into a fully detailed design that specifies all solution requirements. Then they follow that detailed design to create their MMOS.

Paula

So based on what you are saying Paula I should receive the following from my students:

* Two or three distinctive designs (mock ups)

* Following selection, a more detailed version of the chosen design

* Then the eventual MMOS itself based on this design

The first two points would be included in the folio and the last one is the actual MMOS itself.

Is this correct?

Scott

Dear colleagues

Students are expected to fully develop, using appropriate design tools, their preferred design. Below is an extract from criterion 5 (band 9 - 10) relating to this point - this follows the selection of the preferred design idea.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question about the folio and designs.

After the students generate their design ideas (mock ups) and then choose one to develop, would you expect to see a refined and updated design of the chosen solution or just a "report" type document that is detailing 'how' they are going to implement the design principles and tools (from the latter parts of criteria 5) to develop the solution?

I just have some students wondering if they have to do three mock ups, and then after choosing one, do another more detailed drawing or visual representation of how the design will look.

Thought please?
