ADVICE ON DELIVERY OF VCE VET INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
FROM THE VCAA VET UNIT -- 6 Feb 2003
1. Supplementary advice for VCE VET IT is currently being developed . It
will be distributed via edumail memo to schools and as a supplement in the March
VCE Bulletin. A brief summary has also been provided in the February VCE
Bulletin.
2. All training in 2003 must be delivered from Version 3 of the training
package regardless of whether students are continuing or are new to the program.
The VCAA advises all schools to review the new version of the training package
before delivering any units of competence as many units have had enhancements
made to the Evidence Guide and Range of Variables.
3. The delay in publishing the new program is caused by the need to find a
suitable replacement elective for the Unit 1-2 of Cert III IT (Software Apps) as
Maintain Custom Software is no longer available. This unit has also been deleted
from Cert III IT (General) but there are sufficient elective options available
in this program already.
4. With regard to queries on the structure of the program, please refer to
the current program booklet, "Structure of the program" page 6. However to
paraphrase:
a. When the program was initially developed, the IT Reference Group
recommended that any student commencing training at Cert III level needed to be
competent in three of the core modules from Cert II (Communicate in the
Workplace, Apply OH&S and Maintain system integrity). The VCAA has therefore
made them core in the VCE VET program at Cert III level.
b. The VCE VET program has been structured specifically for VCE purposes.
It follows the packaging rules of the training package but also includes some
prescribed units of competence particularly at 3-4 level. Given this, some
elective units of competence from the training package may be prescribed in the
VCE VET program.
If anyone has further queries with regard to the VCE VET IT program, please call
Kate Rule in the VCAA VET Unit on 9651 4458 or email rule.catherine.e@edumail.vic.gov.au
A revision to the National Information Technology Training Package (ICA99) has now been implemented. All schools/RTOs delivering VCE VET Information Technology in 2003 must use Version 3 of the Information Technology Training Package (ICA99) - published in April 2002.
The training package can be purchased from Australian Training Products: (03) 9655 0600 or the Information Technology & Telecommunications (IT&T) ITAB: (03) 9349 4955.
For further information see February VCE Bulletin and details of changes to the program will be published on the VCAA website shortly. Major changes occur only in the Unit 1-2 sequences however some slight changes have been identified in the Unit 3-4 sequences.
