Hi Daryl

That is amazing to publish on Google Play. I think we need more help with
Mobile App development at all levels from Yr 9 onwards.

I have taught Mobile Apps at Certificate IV level and I am attaching two
student workbooks for an Android ( java ):

1.       First as an introductory programming language 

2.       Second for  writing mobile apps

3.        

I think this may be beyond Year 12s but it does give some ideas for those
wanting to go down this road.

Now , in return can I ask all teachers of goodwill who have done any work
with Mobile Apps be it as an elective in Yr 9, 10 or higher to perhaps offer
their learning activities to help their colleagues to get a handle on
programming for mobile apps ?

Options may include:

1.       Android ( java )

2.       Windows 8 for phone and tablet in Visual C#

3.       Objective C for IOS ipad , iphone etc

4.       Swift for IOS etc

5.       Codea for ipads 

6.       Others

Regarding Software Development Outcomes my understanding Is that for Outcome
41 ( Unit 4, Outcome 1 ) a mobile app has to be written as a prototype for
suitable use on a mobile device. It is not actual required to deploy to a
mobile device ( even though the solution has to be capable of being deployed
! ) so I take that to mean an emulator can be acceptable.

p 34: 

Teachers should develop an assessment task that allows the student to:

·          apply the relevant stages of the problem-solving methodology
(design and development) to produce a prototype solution for use on a mobile
phone

In fact both programming Outcomes ( Outcome 32 and Outcome 41 ) are
prototypes.

I know experienced teachers of SD are out there willing to help for any
other questions or concerns.

Hi Vi 

Was thinking about using Android Studio or Java (Eclipse or Netbeans). Good
idea about using Laptops. 

You can also make Android Apps using App Inventor (free program) but it is a
bit clunky and students use drag and drop blocks so that don't see the
actual code. Good at a Year 10 or Year 11. I made a app using App studio and
published it on Google Play.

Hi,

  What programming language are you using to allow you to make Android apps,
are you using Flash or Unity? 

I'm asking because I thought you can only make Android Apps using Flash
Actionscript 3.0 or I may be wrong.

   For my Unit 4 oc1 class, I'm teaching them C# using Unity and test them
on the emulator (I think there's one).

  Last year, I treated the laptop as the "mobile device".

Would like students to build basic apps for mobile devices, Unit 4 SAC 1. 

Would like to use Android devices and have students test their apps on
mobile devices as they are building their apps.

How do other people get students to test their applications on mobile
devices?
