G'day Paul,

I have had some fun using a LeadTek USB
DTV-dongle<http://www.leadtek.com.tw/eng/tv_tuner/overview.asp?lineid=6&pronameid=231>to
capture / record / timeshift / view Digital TV broadcasts onto a hard
drive. The unit cost about $90 and is quite easy to use. Add a 200 Gb USB
external micrdrive and you have a collection of bits that fits into one
hand.

Kids are being entertained in South Australia with some ABC broadcasts and
family movies. Although there is a backup and archive advantage copying
digital media to a 4 or 7 Gb DVD, with the HDD price falling I have been
keeping and reusing these digital files. Now the home TV is the bottleneck
although I know of some friends that built a Linux box to make up their own
home entertainment system.

I had forgotten about VideoLan .. now there is a good idea :-)

Regards Roland

lot of home movies from VHSC tape to DVD). Bought a medion USB grabber on
special from Aldi - works very well.
