[Yr11 Information Technology] Software for Unit 1 Outcome 3

Hey Kim, VCAA doesn't do a list of suggested software any more, just suggested features. What follows is the interpretation I've gathered from various resources; happy to be corrected by the wiser. I based my SAC on the one in the DLTV resource kit, double-checked against the study design and the digipubs website (http://www.digipubs.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce-computing/vce-computing-unit-1-learning ) .

Study design says:

Software tools
The following table indicates the software tools that students are required to both study and use in this unit.
Area of Study 3 Web authoring software, visualising thinking tool/s, tool for planning a project

The term "study and use" means you have to teach it somewhere in the course of the outcome. So, you must teach some visualising thinking tools (I'll use Inspiration for brainstorming/concept mapping), some project planning tool (I use GanttProject) and some web authoring software (I use Notepad and DreamWeaver). For the actual SAC, the students can choose to use these tools.

Study design says:

Key skills
* select and apply appropriate methods and techniques to acquire and reference data and information
* use digital systems to document and monitor project plans when creating team solutions
* analyse the causes and effects of issues using visualising thinking tools
* synthesise viewpoints to formulate a team's point of view
* evaluate cloud computing as a data storage solution
* select and use digital system components appropriate to a team's needs
* select appropriate design tools and represent the appearance and functionality of solutions, taking into account
user interactions
* recommend online techniques for encouraging end-users' support of published viewpoints
* use web authoring software and select and apply functions and techniques to manipulate data and create
solutions.

The project plan must be done digitally by my reading (no hand-drawn Gantt chart) but I'd accept an Excel spreadsheet or a GanttProject chart or anything else that I knew I could authenticate as theirs. The concepts are what you mark on, so if the kids want to use Excel and get full marks I'd expect them to put in tasks and resources, dependency arrows and milestone diamonds as well.

For "evaluate cloud computing", this is the group choosing to use an online tool (such as Wix or Weebly or whatever) or not (local site using DreamWeaver or Notepad or whatever). I'd expect some pros and cons and then a decision from the group (table and/or paragraph of writing). Optimising for mobile viewing (user interaction) is something the team has to do in appearance and functionality of solutions - again, some pros and cons and then a final decision. Make sure you teach every option, but the group chooses which option they are using for their SAC.

Hope that helps, it's my interpretation anyway.

Darren

Subject: [Yr11 Information Technology] Software for Unit 1 Outcome 3

Hi,
I'm teaching the new study design for first time this year and I can't seem to find a list of suggested software that we could use for this Outcome. Just wondering what others are using.
Are we able to use online tools such as Wix to create websites?
Also does the website need to be viewed on a mobile device as this is not stated in the study design but appears in the Nelson textbook.

I'd really appreciate some help with this.

Thanks!

Regards,
