The VCAA list of approved languages
(http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/correspondence/bulletins/2006/june/06JUNBUL.
pdf)
applies to VCE Software Development, not year 11.

But it would be wise to use a language that has the necessary features
for SD: loops, logical constructs, subprograms, arrays etc.

After a quick look at Scratch in Wikipedia
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scratch_(programming_language)), I'm not
sure if it is rigorous enough.

 g'day
Last year I used gamemaker, It allowed students to look at logical
sequencing to start with drag and drop, then we converted the drag and
drop icons to script. The yoyo games website has heaps of tutes and I've
written some myself if you would like them.

Accepted programming languages are listed on the VCAA site but, to my
knowledge, are only for Software Development. I think the purpose of
Unit 2 was to acquaint students with programming structures and
concepts. The concepts of sequencing, branching and iteration are
clearly shown in Scratch.

What do others say? Paula?

Hey there Jenna,

Before you launch into scratch, you better check if its one of the
'accepted' programs for VCE studies. From memory, there was quite a bit
of discussion as to the suitability of that program for the year 11
studies. Many of us are using VBASIC or similar because of that

Ok, thanks for that and stressing me even more!!

What does everyone else think I should do?

I have a couple students who have used Visual Basic before, last years
11 IT teacher did an outcome on Visual Basic.

After going to the VCE IT PD I thought that Scratch was the way to go!

What should I do?

Thanks,

Jenna

I've never used Scratch before.
