May be possible to recover the files from the USB key. We use an old but free copy of Handy Recovery version 1.0 that nicely tries to salvage deleted files on FAT or FAT32 formatted media. (version 2.0 is commercial) Important that he doesn't continue to use the key or he will overwrite the deleted file locations.
