Hi Listers (apologies for cross posts)

You may be aware of this event next week run by NICTA
<http://nicta.com.au/> ( National ICT Australia) A very impressive
organisation and well worth a look.

We are writing to inform you of a major technology showcase event in
Melbourne which should be of interest to all students, especially those
studying science and technology. The Victorian Innovation and Technology
Showcase brings together Victoria's universities and Victoria's major
research centre in Information and Communications Technology, NICTA, to
showcase exciting innovation developed through the combination of technology
and ideas.

Presented in an exhibition format, visitors will have an opportunity to
learn about local innovations that are changing the way we live and work,
and which impact how businesses and other organisations operate.

Over 60 exhibits will be present covering demonstrations such as the
development of an Australian bionic eye, technology to prepare, respond to
and recover from natural disasters, improved decision making on farms,
Mobile App tools and much more.

The Showcase is an opportunity for students Year 8 up, to learn about the
broad application of technology to real world challenges and future career
choices. We invite your school take this opportunity to encourage students
to attend this exciting display of leading innovations and meet many of the
young computer scientists and engineers behind them.

The Showcase will be held on Tuesday, 29 October, at the Melbourne Town
Hall, Swanston Street, Melbourne, from Midday to 5pm, and entry is free of
charge. We have attached a brochure with additional information for
distribution to relevant teachers and students.

If there is any interest in attending the Victorian Innovation and
Technology Showcase, or you would like to know more, please contact Katya
Baxter at NICTA on Tel. (03) 9035 8080 or katya.baxter at nicta.com.au

Kind regards,

Katya Baxter
