Hi Jeanean and Luke,

what was the actual Anaimatic question. I have not had feedback from my students as yet.

Please advise.

Thanks

Luke,
The animatic question was one that my students asked me about as well! I didn't know the answer either - which highlights the problem with setting an exam based on a training package. It is so broad that as teachers we desperately try to cover as much as we possibly think might be in the exam, and it is hard not to scare the kids because they feel as if they need to know so much. I try to remind my students that every other student across the state is feeling the same way!

Last year I taught VCD as well and one of my students summed it up quite well when she said that the VCD exam was easy because everything that appeared to be on past exams were things they did in class all along, but in IDM the past exams indicated to her that there was so much "varied stuff" that she needed to memorise and know about which she didn't necessarily use often in the practical tasks she worked on through the year.

Having said that though, many of my students have gone on to universities over the past few years to do Interactive Digital Media or Graphic Design degrees and they say they are well certainly well prepared having undertaken IDM in secondary school. They say there are some things they do in VCE VET IDM that they don't get to do until second year at Uni.

I do love teaching IDM though - I'd choose it over VCD any day!

Hi Jeanean

Similar story to yours. They thought the practical section was easier than the PixelEd practice exam I gave them! Which in my opinion is a good thing because they should get decent scores. What they weren't sure of was the animatics question. I don't recall ever seeing that anywhere. Not in the text that I use. I had to look it up! The majority said the multi-choice and short answer was harder than the practical section.

Some of my kids said they couldn't hear the 'ping' in the explosion sound... I don't know what this means, whether it was a timing issue or something like that. Others said they heard it fine.

Hmmmmmmmmm... a few mixed reactions from my kids. Seems there were things they knew really well and a couple of odd terms that they didn't know. They mostly seem to be confident with the practical task though, which is good. Can't wait until I get a look at the exam. Anyone had similar feedback from their kids?
