[vet-mm] 2010 Exam

Clearly it is time that we had a general set of references from VCAA
that we are all working to. It seems that the exam panel have gone to
the critical knowledge in the training package and placed emphasis on
some of the more 'niche' parts of these criteria. While there seemed to
be a reasonable balance across the units there seemed to be emphasis on
things like copyright/law, IP I struggled with point of view as one of
the conventional 12 principles of animation. I know we have shied away
from set texts over the years, but maybe a common set of sources is not
such a bad idea for elements principles, stages of production etc.

Thought the prac was testing but good.

Have filled in my survey!

I have often felt this way - sadly to say probably for about half of the
MM exams I have ever guided my students through over the years. The good
exams have been the ones where students left exams feeling like they had
been well prepared. As teachers, that is all we want is it not?
Unfortunately (but traditionally it seems) over the years VCAA have
offered about as much support as the garden gnome at my front door. I'll
said it before and I will say it again - my only sanity over the years
has come from my fellow MM/IDM teachers, this mailing list and our pixel
ed association!

My thoughts too Claire. It's hard when I feel I have worked very hard
this year getting this course up and running. When students come out of
the exam saying there were things they didn't know in front of the
principal it does my reputation and self-esteem no good whatsoever. This
is the first year I have taught the 3/4 Multimedia / IDM and it has
been a hard slog. More guidance and resources would be helpful.

Don't worry Stuart, we might all be able to line up at

I've been feeling as though I've let my students down and
disappointed that they might think I didn't prepare them well enough.

Mixed feelings... a friend of mine delvers both Units 1 & 2 and
3 & 4 at the same time to two separate groups of students. Those
students I predict, would do a bit better than my group of Unit 3 & 4.
That's life i guess. Might just have to rewrite the SAC and curriculum
for next year :( But then again, may not be teaching it next year :)

Anyone got a job for me ?

I have found the same comments from my students. I have had a
look at the exam and I even had a lot of trouble answering many of the
questions. I also found some of the multiple choice answers debatable or
open to interpretation? In particular I found Q.4, 6 and 10 to be
interesting.
I realise I am quite brain dead by this time of the year but did
anyone else find the questions a little too specific given the scope of
the content we need to cover?
I have already completed the feedback survey.

	Cheers,

I haven't had a chance to look at the exam as yet, but the
feedback from my students is mixed. Although my students found the
practical tasks to be fairly pleasant and familiar, they did find the
theory questions a bit unexpected. I do know we can only predict the
type of questions based on info given out by VCAA - and being a new
course we really didn't have anything previous to go by. Students told
me the type of theory questions varied greatly to the Pixel Ed practice
exam I gave them a couple of weeks ago, so I am wondering if any of your
students also had similar feedback.
