[vet-mm] exam requirements

Sorry Marian, I meant the Author Interactive Sequences UOC. I am probably looking too hard to see if there is any need to include scripting in the course because I am still unclear whether it is required or not. It seems to me that you could satisfy the Author Interactive Sequences UOC by making an interactive game using Flash & AS3 but I'm not sure whether it is worth the students doing battle with AS3 if scripting is not required knowledge and web site authoring is. I'll plan to cover web site authoring, CSS, etc and touch on some scripting basics and hopefully things will be clarified soon.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,
Maybe exam advice will come out with the sample questions? .
I'm confused about what Scripting UoC you are referring to. There isn't one in Cert III, it has been moved up to Cert IV level,
Marian

Hi list again,

I have recently been assured by VCAA that exam advice is imminent.
I also noticed that the document that outlines the software specifications for this year ( attached ) says that the practical component will be based on an animation and web pages and specifies Dreamweaver as the software program for the Author Interactive Sequences UOC. It looks like construction of web sites will be required knowledge but it doesn't really say to what extent scripting will be required knowledge.
I think I'll go with the animation in Flash, with enough scripting to include some interaction or game-iness ( sort of like the annoying shoot the target or dodge the bullet pop-ups that appear as ads on web sites ).
My reading of the Scripting UOC is that they don't have to really be "authors" of script as long as they can put it in place, check it and make it work, so most of it will be applied by the kids as pre-scripted chunks and tweaked to suit their project. If they then put a web site together and put the animation on it they should have covered what they will need.
I'm happy for anyone to let me know if they think I'm on the wrong track here.

It is also interesting to note on the attached sheet that the "specifications and sample material, will be published by the start of Term 1, 2010." Hmmm.

Brian Pearce.

Hi List,
I think that there are a number of teachers out there (including me) who are unsure how to structure their 3&4 IDM course because the competencies as always can be interpreted quite broadly. The important content issues of where to put the focus, what are the essential knowledge and skills that will allow our cohort of students to perform at their best in an exam situation and in some cases what software to deliver the competencies through.
The Prepare video assets competency do I use Final Cut, AfterEffects or one of the myriad of other software applications available?
I would have thought that VCAA should have published information prior to the commencement of the school year.

Personally I have started with competencies that are fairly predictable but still feel in the dark about the level of understanding expected.

Has not being able to make the PixelEd start up day put me at a huge disadvantage?
Were the teachers who attended privy to additional information about the course content?
If not I am surprised at the lack of chat about the course structure and the tardiness of VCAA to provide us concrete information.
Yours Frustratedly
