[vet-mm] Yr 12 media student needs help

Taking the info regarding video software schools are using further - what video cameras are you using with Premiere. We have Canon FS 100s which save in a mod format which is not recognised by Premiere CS3. Our media teacher informs me that using a video converter does not produce good enough results. Do we need to purchase HD video cameras?
Any ideas anyone ?
