[vet-mm] FTP server space for students?

I have recently set up a server on www.siteground.com cost me $159 for two years including the domain name rego - it has 750Gb space and 7500Gb monthly access - I can’t find any better value - unlimited subdomains, sql servers etc.

So for my students who create websites I will create a password protected sub domain for each of them (all will have the same user name and password) and upload their pages, so all of them can see their own and each other's work.

The domain I registered is www.learning4.us so I can do anything I want with it really.

It also comes with cpanel which allows easy installation of moodle, joomla, drupal and stacks of other scripts.

Hope this helps
Cheers

Hi Mike,

Fairly easy to set up a linux/ubuntu server with ftp access including
remote access.
Contact me off list if you want to look at it further.

Angelfire is blocked here….

I set up a local server (ok the techs did that bit :-)) but we set up
sub-domains for my multimedia and others who need to use FTP processes…
this also means that the kids work is protected from the outside world
and all that privacy stuff isn’t an issue. It also means inappropriate
stuff can’t be put on outside of school hours.

Cheers

Hi people. I am just querying about the availability of a simple
free web hosting space that's proven to work for students. I have tried
Geocities in the past, but last year it was a disaster and kept posting
a "server is busy" type of claim all of the time when it was working
outside of the school. Has anybody got any links for alternatives or
even a viable set up that I can pay for with my limited budget? I need
to get some work FTP'd for students to validate etc. Any links would be
helpful.

Cheers,
