[vet-mm] Preparing SACs for Cert III

Rather than one day, my students take many sessions (over many weeks) to work on their SATs.
As long as the overall time spent is within the limit (15 hrs I think off the top of my head) -- this is a less pressured approach that mimics the workplace better. The quality of work shows as sufficient time to plan/experiment is built in.
Timewise, the weeks are split into about half . The first half there is an intensive series of tutes/exercises to skill em up -- then the SAT is introduced and we go into studio mode. Often we swing back and forth between modes when its obvious that reinforcement is necessary.

Just my approach
-- Rob

Hi, thanks for the informative PD on Monday, it cleared a few cobwebs and shone a torch on some of those dark eerie corners of the TAFE horror-house (so to speak). I'm not in a panic but I need to clarify a few things before I chisel my yearly planning into stone. I'm preparing my next combined unit and SAC (or SAT) that will incorporate both scripting and 2D animation. I'm just a little unsure as to how to stagger some of that assessment and the assets before the big day. After seeing some of the previous final products I really can't see how students can do all of that in one day (complex drawing/rendering etc.) without preparing assets and design docs first. I am thinking of doing the following. Please let me know if I'm barking up the wrong tree:

  1) Running a series of tutes that will address the basic elements of BOTH units etc over 8-10 weeks

  2) Give a "preparation for SAC mystery task brief" for the final product which will require the students to prepare characters, drawings, target audience, elements, assets etc. This will run over a few weeks and can give students the opportunity to do extra work if they like- HOWEVER the SAC work brief will be given on the day of assessment.

  3) SAC day: A specific brief (extension of previous brief) will be delivered on the day outlining particular client orientated requirements such as: sequence, labelling, interactivity (text box objects)/scripting, theme/story, duration, size/resolution etc.

Does this sound reasonable?

Cheers,

Mike Portley
