James, the first thing you should do is book yourself into the  
Industry Dinner that Pixel Ed are running next week. www.pixeled.org.au
You will meet other members as well as our committee. We run PD  
sessions throughout the year and especially a "Newbies" day for  
people who are in your exact position.
Come along, I highly recommend it. We also have a number or resources  
available by becoming a member.
