[vet-mm] country PD suggestion

Hi Kent,
considering that this is a multimedia list I assume you're after VET
Multimedia type PD? If so, then another alternative to VITTA is Pixeled
who specifically deliver multimedia training to teachers of VET
Multimedia. If you are not familiar with our association then you can
find us at: http://www.pixeled.org.au

This will give you some indication of what we offer.

Regards, Sue

Hi all, heres another thought I have just had, rather than just expect a
gimme' here's a possible 'how to'...
time to handpass to you listers and see what happens...

If possible perhaps VITTA could organize a 'travelling roadshow' of
committed and appropriately skilled staff to be part of a
roster(schedule) to deliver PD of software to country schools.
How do we know what schools want?
Can I suggest we set up a database that would include different
software, who is prepared to deliver it and what times they may be able
to deliver it. As for location and hardware, perhaps IT teachers, dept
heads etc could look at their needs and suggest to their timetablers
when would suit that a visiting presenter(teacher of the software) give
a presentation?
With these 2 pieces of data, they could be compared and viola.. person X
can present software Y at location Z on date dd/mm/yyyy?
Just don't mention the d$$$(ollars) word.

By the way, this is by no means expected of VITTA and would by very much
appreciated - I'm sure - by whoever can deliver this material to us
pleb, non-nerdy, doin' fine types....

Does this sound practical?

Kent

Tony Forster and I don't mind coming out to the country to run workshops
with GameMaker, Moodle, Linux etc. I think that VITTA would be happy to
help coordinate.

If anybody has any views on this, offer to host the training, things we
must think about then drop me a line directly off this list and I will
guarantee to pass the details onto our new EO Renee.

Regards Roland

There are also schools that are further out from Melbourne who
would be absolutely delighted to host a gathering of teachers doing PD.

Perhaps those schools might want someone to come and deliver
the PD - a less stressful method and enables the teachers at that school
to also participate...

Experience in delivery of IT PD in the country has shown that
even when we go to country the number of teachers who can actually
attend is quite small. It is usually uneconomic if we also have to pay
fro a venue and we have to pay travel for a presenter. Etc.

Are we prepared to pay a little more and get donations of space
etc - if so then it could happen ...

	Think about it

In this day and age we shouldn't let distance get in the way of
training, but I totally understand the situation of our country
colleagues.

Perhaps we could have some networking groups set up to provide
hands on support. Or we could set up some time for online training....

There are web gurus out there who would be able to set up some
form of sharing session where specific skills are focussed on.

	Just some thoughts

As a staffer in the country, it concerns me that there is a
distinct lack of training that is not Melbourne based. I think this is
going to alienate those of us teaching in country schools wrt specific
skills training and miss some key networking opportunities.

I wonder what the thoughts of other list participants are on
this issue...

Hello to everyone who attended the PixelEd Gear Up for 2007 day
on Nov 13. On the day it became apparent that there was a need for some
sessions on the basics of Flash, PhotoShop etc. I've been looking into
the possibility of running them either as part of the PixelEd One Day
Conference on Thursday Dec 7th or at a later date. However as part of
our agreement with lab3000 we don't duplicate sessions that they offer,
and they are offering basic courses in these programs in the new year. I
can recommend them to you - here is their program for Term 1 2007:
