[vet-mm] Graphics Tablets v2

Hello,
I can't help myself here as this one seems to be going on for a while...

As a practising illustrator, animator and designer since the mid 90's I
have been using Wacom tablets since 98. There is always a lot of talk
about how much better the bigger tablets are.

Experience has taught me that a 6x4 tablet is absolutely all you need
and is in fact better for long term work. Micro strain on the back and
shoulder muscles is really accentuated by the larger arm/wrist action
you apply when using a larger tablet. This means agony faster on BIG
jobs. In my opinion the only students that may need a 9 x 12 (or bigger)
are those in prep or primary. (That said I do know some fashion people
who like the largest tablets they can get hold of; however they rarely
spend all day at a computer keyboard)

I personally use a 4x6 intuos tablet at home, and at school we use the 4
x 6 graphires. The students like them and I don't have a problem with
the graphires sensitivity in comparison to the Intuos. Just remove the
silly plastic cover on the tablet surface; a stupid idea. Feedback
sensitivity is much greater without it. That said I can leap onto the
next size up tablet and not even know I'm using it.

So my advice is save your pennies and buy 4 x 6 tablets, but stick with
the known brand. (This is also a consideration when they update drivers
etc; Wacom are very good on that score)

Anyway that's my 20c worth.

It was the 4x5s- it is entry level - but the kids find them O.K.

Hi Anna,

The pack of Graphire 4s that you bought.... were they 4x5's or 6x8's?

I noticed that the 10 pack of Graphire 4s 4x5 are $990.
Are these OK or do you really need the 6x8 to get the best out of it?

Another question... sorry... what software (graphics) are people using
the
Graphire 4s for?
Photoshop/Fireworks/Illustrator/Freehand.....???

Cheers,
TJ
