Dear Jo

Please refer to the Copyright information on the Season of Excellence page of the VCAA Website for folio requirements for the Top Designs Exhibition:

http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/excellenceawards/seasonofexcellence/index.html

Your query relates to the following information

* Logos and trademarks. The trademarks and logos used by companies (e.g 'Porsche', BMW), for theatrical productions and movies (e.g. 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show', 'Grease' etc.), and business trademarks such as the name of a restaurant or Chef, name of cosmetics companies such as 'Coty', fashion designers and retail stores e.g. 'Sass and Bide' and 'Alice Euphemia', venues including the Melbourne Zoo, and tourist/transport companies like 'The Ghan' and 'Qantas' are also copyright, so if used in folios students are planning to submit for 'Top Designs', permission needs to be obtained. However, just referring to a company by name does not require copyright clearance.
I hope this provides an answer to your question.

Subject: [Textiles and Technology] Promotion and copyright?

Hi all,
Can anyone clarify whether there would be a copyright issue if a student uses an existing magazine name like 'Vogue' in their promotion mock up?
And, if it were to go to Top Designs - would there be an issue there?
Thanks,
Jo Roszkowski
