[Technical] Single PC print control

Greetings all

We have an issue where we need to control a single PC's printing.
The PC controls an expensive A3 colour buble jet in the graphics
department.
We have tried network printing, but the files are so large that the
result is not reliable.
Consumables are so high with paper and ink that individual print jobs
need to be monitored, by user and paper size.

We aren't interested in Gaia, Paper cut, Pcounter etc etc.
Does anyone have a simple standalone solution? The cheaper the better.

(sorry for the cross posting, but we are desparate)

THanks
Wayne HEwett

Hi Lorraine,

We use Suse for our firewall/proxy server and also have 2 Suse machines
running internal sites - Moodle and a students intranet. We did trial
Suse on the desktop last year for one room. Response from staff was
generally supportive, although some vocal members objected to not having
access to Windows. Currently we run XP on all desktops, Novell as the
network, but will probably move to Novell's OES at the end of this year.

cheers

Russell

Is anyone running their network or desktops on Linux rather than Novell
or Windows. If so what software do you use to run with it.
