Subject: [Technical] [Moodle] RIS - Remote Installation services
for windows2003

Dear Lists (apologies for any cross posts)

Is anyone successfully using the Remote Installation Services of
Windows

2003 server to re-image computers and automatically have them
reconnected back onto the network with computer name and location.
Apparently this can be done. We are looking for a solution to save our
techs from having to do this manually.

Hi Paul,

At least one of my neighbouring colleagues is doing this.

>From my reading I know that you can pre-allocate and even automate which
PCs gets which RIS images.

It uses PXE to boot and acquire an image, so the BIOS and the network
card of the computers you want to do this with have to be able to boot
from the network.

Cheers,
Clarky
