Hi Laura,

I read your email with great interest. I am currently at Highview College in Maryborough and I have setup Systems Engineering here at Highview. I have a combined 11 & 12 VCE class and a Year 10 Systems Technology class. I will also be running a Year 9 class called Engineering Challenges in semester 2.

I taught Systems Engineering at Kardinia in Geelong for a number of Years. I am really keen to see teachers upskilled to run this program. I am unable to attend the meeting because of the travel distance involved but I would like to be kept in the loop and hope that I can contribute in some way.  I am looking at 2 more years after this year before I retire so have been looking at training a teacher to take over from me here at Highview. I am sure that more schools would run Systems if there were more teachers available.

Dear friends,

DATTA Vic and the Banyule Nillumbik Tech School are hosting an after-school forum on the 5th March. We are very keen to speak to teachers and HOD's about Systems Engineering. In particular, we're hoping to address three areas:


  *   What barriers do schools face to offering VCE Systems Engineering?
  *   What upskilling opportunities do teachers need to run systems programs for 7-10 and at VCE?
  *   How can we attract and retain more students - in particular girls - in Systems Engineering?

We are hoping to attract grant funding to deliver teacher professional learning in this area, so we want to speak to as many educators as we can - either those already teaching Systems or those who would be interested in the future - to ensure we develop a program that meets our members' needs. (If you've recently set up VCE Systems at your school, please email me!)

So if you are free on the 5th from 4pm - 6pm, please join us at Banyule Nillumbik Tech School and share your ideas and issues over a coffee.
