color:#1F497D'>Well perhaps the fault is in the question &#8211; as I do not
agree that &#8216;design is design&#8217;.&nbsp; A sketch of what a UI might
look like in a finished development is quite different to a detailed UI design.&nbsp;
The software development cycle (which technically is a part of the development
phase of the SDLC) contains a design stage that is related specifically to the
design of the UI&#8217;s for the software in question.&nbsp; The design phase
of the SDLC is a much more global information system wide design.&nbsp; I don&#8217;t
believe that after analyzing an information system, the next step should be UI
design &#8211; I think that this comes much later.&nbsp; <o:p></o:p></span></p>

color:#1F497D'><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></span></p>

color:#1F497D'>Perhaps the question should have been more specific in terms of
these things.&nbsp; My 2c anyway &#8211; I feel that either answer would be
easily justified in an exam situation and if students were able to do so in the
manner that we have done, they would have more than demonstrated an in-depth
knowledge of the course.&nbsp; (Sometimes I find the &#8216;mistakes&#8217; or debatable
questions to be the most stimulating for class discussion!&nbsp; Let students
take a side and debate their point of view.)<o:p></o:p></span></p>

We were told at Uni some 5 years ago now that a design should be detailed
enough that if you were to have an accident someone else could use your design
and build whatever needs to be built.<br>

In house terms a detailed plan is still a plan of what is to be.<br>

Actually on second thoughts I can see why Development is the suggested<br>
answer. &nbsp;It is during the development phase that the software development<br>
itself takes place - and the Design phase is really about selecting<br>
hardware, software and determining features of the system rather than<br>
getting stuck into details such as UI's. &nbsp;The design phase might determine<br>
that a software package needs to be created and have certain requirements -<br>
and some designs might be created which represent what the UI should ideally<br>
look like. &nbsp;But it is a lot like a concept sketch of a new house versus a<br>
detailed plan of what each of the rooms will look like.<br>
