Has anyone else used this exam with their students?
It is a reasonable exam and allows for good discussion with students.

I have a few queries/observations:
MC Q.1

-          While Pseudocode cannot be compiled, I wonder if it can be argued that it is a Design Tool – as it is used to construct, plan and design and test coding operations – hence is D correct too?
MC Q.4

-          Ease of Use (efficiency in the glossary) and Usability (effectiveness) overlap considerably – and should be both in effectiveness. The term “easy to use” is very confusing for students. Is C correct too?
Case Study, Sect C

-          Q 8 – The calculation was good – and students found it challenging – or hard! This is because there was little written help in the case study to guide the students in the “expected” output.

-          In the suggested answers the angle cuts are only calculated once for multiple lengths of wood – however, in the real world you would expect that every angle cut would be charged. Hence I think the suggested answers should be 777.64 (as there are two cuts in each of the two 5m bits of wood); and 546.32 (as there are five cuts in total).

-          The above point also gives rise to further errors in the code that are not mentioned     ….

-          CutFee = CutFee * quantity (for each item, otherwise the poor guy on the saw might have to cut 33 bits of wood for $2 ☺)
