[Year 12 SofDev] ER diagrams v data structure diagrams for 2011

Hi Maggie

Pretty well correct - a data structure diagram is the overall description of
data elements in an IS.

There are two main types of data structure diagrams - an ER diagram, which
is a network model diagram that describes the stored data layout of an
information system - it is therefore a subset of a data structure diagram,
and the DFD (data flow diagram) which describes the flow of information
around an IS (which were in the old Program Guide). Wikipedia has a good
representation of it.

Hope this helps. ER diagrams and DFD's were post grad IT units when I
studied it many moons ago. Difficult concepts for students to grasp.

Kind regards

Subject: [Year 12 SofDev] ER diagrams v data structure diagrams for 2011

In the study design for 2011, a KK includes data structure diagrams and ER
diagrams. Looking on the Web for some help, it appears they are similar and
perform similar functions. Perhaps the ER diagram is a subset of the data
structure diagram. Haven't fully grasped this yet.

ER diagrams are found in ITA in 2011.

So, can someone supply a way to differentiate the two? Or even websites for
examples?

thanks

Maggie
