[Year 12 SofDev] new to SD

Hi Jim,

I tend to do an overview of networking during that time. Then send them
away to work on it over the break.

The networking stuff tends to sit a little bit outside the SDLC path the
that the course takes, so like to get it out of the way. Also if kids
have done unit 2 it leads on from what they have already done.

I leave the programming stuff until we come back as I find they can't
work on much of it over the break and/or they don't remember. It might
be a considered by some to be boring but at least you have a good chuck
of first term theory out of the way.

Re books I have used both, prefer the Fitzpatrick one as it is an easier
read however I often rewrite questions or reduce them down as it just
has way to many.

Regards

Claudia

Subject: [Year 12 SofDev] new to SD

Hi there,

While I've taught SD once before several years ago, it appears that it
will be running here next year, and that I'll have the class. I've heard
that the textbooks are being rewritten, or is this for the new course in
2011? Of the two books available, which is the preferred one? There are
none in my school. I have to run three lessons next week for
orientation, and am floundering at the moment. I'd really appreciate any
assistance to get started. Programming isn't my forte.

Thanks very much.

Jim
